A Bequest in a Will or a Living Trust

Bequests are among the most meaningful and easiest gifts to make. You can leave a bequest by having your attorney include a few sentences in your will or in a revocable living trust. A bequest gives you the flexibility to change your mind because your will and the charitable bequest within it are revocable and changeable at any time.

A bequest in a will can take the form of a set amount of money, a percentage of an estate, a specific asset, a trust, or the naming of a church related organization as a contingent beneficiary.

Sample language for including St. Timothy’s in your will or living trust might be:

“I give, devise, and bequeath (state amount, asset, or percentage of the estate) to St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church & Preschool, West Des Moines, Iowa to be used (describe use) or as the St. Timothy’s Vestry deems appropriate.”

If you would like to notify St. Timothy’s of a planned gift provision you have already made or would like to discuss planned giving opportunities, contact Mary Sheldahl or Mary Cole Duvall, Rector at 225-2020.
