Christian Formation

Christian Formation is a disciple-forming ministry. It is the lifelong journey of living into the fullness of our God-created selves. At St. Timothy’s we believe that as we deepen our understanding of our faith we are better able to live into our baptismal covenant; that is, to be Christ’s hands and feet in the world.

In its broadest sense, Christian Formation involves worship, prayer, study/education, fellowship, mission and stewardship. In this place, the Christian Formation Commission is committed to offering a variety of educational opportunities for all our members, from youngsters to octogenarians!  See our Education Programs and Ministries.

Our Sunday morning classes for young people are likely the easiest to recognize, but a great many other learning opportunities are available as well. Most weeks, a group gathers to study the Bible using the lectionary texts and another to discuss aspects of our faith as well as scripture-related books. An adult discussion group also meets frequently between services on Sunday. In addition to classroom-setting learning, St. Timothy’s supports an active youth group, spiritual retreats, and discovery classes for people new to the Church.

As with other ministries, it takes a great number of people to support these classes and activities. We are grateful for all the people who so generously give their time and talent which is so necessary in fostering this vital ministry.

Take a moment. Look at how many young people are in this parish. See the opportunities to expand your own understanding of God. Ask God…is this where I am to serve? How can I support those in this ministry? A prayer Gracious God, true source of light and wisdom: Bless those who teach and those who learn. Give us all inquiring hearts and a deep desire to know you better. Help us to seek you in scripture, in prayer, and in service. Most of all, O God, let this be a place of love and learning for all your children; in the name of your Son, our great Teacher and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
